WHEN: 27 May – 1 June 2018

WHERE: Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church

77 Prinsep Street, Singapore 188649

HOSTS: SIM East Asia & Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church

An annual event, this workshop aims to pr ovide Christians with the essential biblical knowledge, attitudes and skills for r elating well with co-workers, family members, friends and those from other cultures.

“I was experiencing

signs of burnout. Stress had

been accumulating, and I was

struggling with a local who had

been spreading things about me. I

wanted to learn how to ‘confront’

people at the SYIS workshop.

At the workshop I learned about using the

‘I statement’ to minimize the negative effects

of confrontation and conflict. This helps me

to bring up difficult topics without sounding

offensive or blaming others. I also learned that

no matter how people treat me, to remain calm

and speak nicely in order to resolve the conflict,

and about verbalizing my appreciation.

I guess I can say that my interpersonal

skills have improved after attending the

workshop, and it has helped me sort out

the situation with the local. I am less

stressed now.”

“I was especially glad to

learn about grief management

when I attended SYIS in 2017. In my

internship in church, I occasionally help

out with wakes and funerals. The module on

Managing Grief taught me how to effectively

empathize with the bereaved family and, at

the same time, allow them the space to grieve.

The workshop also made me more aware of

the need to manage my personal and
church
relationships.”
